The White Russian is the musical project of Suffolk born, London based singer songwriter Joseph Giffard Tutt. You Are is their new EP.

The inspiration for the title track comes from Joseph’s battles with chronic fatigue and the altered states of consciousness that he has experienced. As he explains, “I’ve had periods of feeling disassociated from my body and from a normal reality, it has felt like my life may as well have been a dream”. You Are EP moves between a variety of musical moods, from the intimate singer-songwriter folk songs such as the title track & Cancer Knee through to the more exuberant and epic tunes such as EP opener B Child, with its strident horns and epic electric guitar. On another side of the musical coin EP closer Rickety Road/Sat Me Down has a wistful, bluesy swagger. Artists that inspired Joseph in his creativity include Bill Callahan and Grizzly Bear as well as The Beta Band and Neutral Milk Hotel. The lead single You Are was recently played by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music.

The White Russian was formed in west London and the band have performed alongside luminaries such as Lyla Foy, Goldheart Assembly and The Turbans amongst others. You Are EP was recorded with engineer Patrick Banks and mixed and mastered with producer Iain Berryman at Abbey Road.

"... a fantastic slice of lo-fi indie which marries eccentric flourishes with garage production” The Line of Best Fit

"The trad-folk sound of this tune takes a journey through anti-folk and Spanish influences to create something quite extraordinary” The Independent

“The White Russian have all the ingredient to become cult legends” York Calling

“This is a beautiful 5 track EP … reminds me of Paul Simon at his most tender. This is one of those rare Eps you wish was an album as I certainly want to hear more from The White Russian.” Monolith Cocktail
