Hitsujibungaku are Moeka Shiotsuka (vocals, guitar), Yurika Kasai (bass), and Hiroa Fukuda (drums), an alternative rock band with a power-infused sound and hints of a unique fragility. In May 2025, at Japan’s largest international music awards, MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN, they won Best Domestic Alternative Artist and Best Domestic Alternative Song for “more than words”, taking home top honors in both categories. They were also featured in "10 Neo-J-POP Artists to Watch in 2024" published on the official Grammy Awards website in May.
On latest album ‘D o n’ t L a u g h I t O f f’, the trio bounce between shoegaze and indie rock, blending shimmering guitars, driving rhythms, and vocals that move seamlessly from delicate to soaring, the record reflects the band’s evolution while holding onto the raw emotion that has defined them from the start. Latest single “Feel”, a dreamy and evocative cut of alternative rock beautifully soundtracked the opening of anime “Secrets Of The Silent Witch” earlier this year.
The band first emerged onto the global stage in September 2023 when “more than words” was released as the ending theme for TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen: Shibuya Incident. The song has already garnered over 180 million worldwide streams and become a global sensation. In March 2024, the band's first Asia tour was completely sold-out, showing their continued growth outside of their home country of Japan. On ‘Dont Laugh It Off’, the trio are poised to continue their expansion further afield, with their strongest and most ambitious album to date.
