For his 1992 debut Whut? Thee Album, Newark firebrand Redman arrived with enough personality to fill several records, pairing his barked, rubber-limbed flow with Erick Sermon's deep funk production. First up is 'Time 4 Sum Aksion' and it's a wonderfully rowdy party cut driven by heavy drums and P-funk muscle; Redman attacking every pocket like it owes him money. 'Blow Your Mind' is even more mischievous as his rhymes veer into surreal jokes then deliberately fall apart mid-verse. Hardcore rap with its shoelaces untied.
