Recorded off the back of a nine-month gig performing at a bar in Hawaii and released in 1958, Forbidden Island was the third LP made by the Father of Exotica, pianist and composer Martin Denny. An easy listening and intoxicating blend of lounge music performed with accents of Asian and world music and Denny’s unique imitations of tropical rhythms, it made Denny into a household name.
