Over and Even was a breakout album for Joan Shelley. Originally released in 2015 and recorded in Louisville, Kentucky, it features Shelley with her then neighbour Nathan Salsburg on guitar. The record was named album of the year at NPR Music and in The Los Angeles Times.
In Rolling Stone’s four-star review, it was called “a masterfully turned set of folk reflections.” This expanded edition adds 8 previously unheard demos, performed and recorded solo by Shelley and shared only with Salsburg so he could learn the songs.
