The first regular Dave Brubeck Quartet with Paul Desmond included Joe Dodge on drums and, brothers Bob or Norman Bates on bass. In 1956 Joe Morello took over as the quartet's drummer in place of Dodge, and with his arrival the classic Dave Brubeck Quartet" was born.
