This Record Store Day 2026 red coloured vinyl 2LP release marks the 30th anniversary of Danny Elfman's score to the 1996 blockbuster movie Mission: Impossible.
It includes the instantly recognisable Mission: Impossible theme, originally composed by Lalo Schifrin for the 1960s TV series, and rearranged by Elfman for the first movie in the Tom Cruise action franchise. The theme is known for its suspense-filled rhythm with an unusual 5/4 time signature, and the famous four-note motif that opens the piece: a musical nod to the Morse Code pattern for the letters M.I. (‐‐ ··). This clever encoding not only ties the theme directly to the title but also reinforces the atmosphere of secret communications, covert operations, and puzzles that define the world of Mission: Impossible.
