Various - Early Traditional Instruments In Asia

Format: LP
Availability: In stock

Since launching earlier this year, the admirable Shiok label has delivered two killer compilations of traditional Indonesian music, often sourced from dusty old records pressed up in the first half of the 20th century. This similarly fine collection casts its net wider, gathering together obscure recordings of centuries old instruments and traditional songs from across Asia and Australasia. It's kind of like a history lesson for those interested in indigenous instrumentation and musical folk tradition and it's really very good. Some of the recordings are a little crackly, to say the least - a by-product of being lifted from old Shellac '78s, we suspect - but it only adds to the album's atmospheric, exotic and intoxicating feel.
