Hello World!

Hello and welcome to the first ever Stranger Than Paradise blog post!

We've had an amazing few months since opening our dream record shop, and with so many new friends and regulars we thought you all might want a little update every once in a while.

So, what's new in Paradise...

Well the big one is our website is now finally up and running, fully functional for all your online browsing, mail order and click and collect needs. So have yourselves a gander and get familiar.

We'll be updating with new releases and pre-orders all the time, so here's your chance to secure a copy of those limited releases before they even hit the shelves!

Speaking of new releases, we've been truly spoilt this week; Baxter Dury snarls through a short but sweet collaborative LP in perfect balance with Etienne De Crécy and Skinny Girl Diet's Delilah Holliday. Homeboy Sandman also opts for razor sharp concision on Humble Pi, with Edan at his side, back for his first studio album release since 2005's landmark in psychedelic hip hop, Beauty and the Beat.

On Aviary, Julia Holter opens ears to a sky swarming with birds, with strings and horns and bagpipe drones stretching over the horizon, yet still manages to tune in to distinct melodies amongst the cacophony. Thom Yorke also finds beauty in the chaos on his score for Luca Guadagnino's reinterpretation of Italian horror classic Suspiria, proving himself as equally capable in the world of soundtracks as his bandmate Mr. Greenwood.

We've gotten ourselves excited for this spooky season by filling up our walls with stabbing strings, ominous organs and spooky synths from the maestros; Henry Mancini, Bernard Hermann, John Carpenter, Morricone and more! And remember, a record is for life not just for Halloween, these masterpieces in suspense and tension should be studied all year round.. err maybe save Ghostbusters for special occasions!!

Tons more excellent new releases and reissues available from Etienne Jaumet, Ofege, Soul Jazz (taking a second dive into Venezuelan obscurities), Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Tim Maia, too many to name! Browse for yourself here.

Our Stranger Fridays events are already becoming a bit of a hit, and we've been blessed to have some truly incredible DJs behind our counter already (cough cough David Holmes cough Steve Davis ahem). This Friday we've got a very special one lined up, with the inimitable audiobooks here to launch their brand new LP on Heavenly Recordings! David and Evangeline will be blowing our minds with their eclectic tastes and impeccable selection skills from 8pm till late, and what's more we'll have drinks very kindly supplied by our friends at Camden Town Brewery alongside a fully licensed bar, so come and make a night of it! And keep an eye out for future events via our instagram.

Thank you all for your support, we hope to see you soon.

Written to the sounds of Low 'The Great Destroyer'.
