Resonance FM October 2019

Welcome to our Resonance FM October broadcast.

Highlight's this month include "FLY or DIE II: bird dogs of paradise" the much-anticipated follow-up to composer, trumpeter, and (now) singer Jaimie Branch's debut "Fly or Die" released International Anthem. “So much beauty lies in the abstract of instrumental music,” says Branch in the album’s liner notes, “but being this ain’t a particularly beautiful time, I’ve chosen a more literal path. The voice is good for that.”

I'm also enjoying Bibi Ahmed's Adghah, released on Sound Of Subterannea. Bibi is head and bandleader of Group Inerane from Agadez, Niger. This is his first solo album on which he played all of the instruments himself. This reduction opened up a whole new view on this quite extraordinary mix of Tuareg blues, electrified Tamachek folk and psychedelic Sahara rock. The listener literally feels the shimmer of the heat and, once one embarks on the path of listening, the differences between spiritual trance and hypnotic psychedelic blues become indistinct.
